Has anyone been successful in downloading and installing a full distro of Mandriva? I have d/l'd the Live CD and run that, but I would like to not have to "install" and answer all those q's everytime I run it, and I would like to run the full thing.

I d'l'd the free iso DVD,which has both i586 and x86_64 versions on it, but when I try to install either from a DVD or from the iso file on the HDD, the install just hangs in the boot mode.

I have a full install of Mandriva 2007 running in Parallels.

You have to boot in text mode in order to get it installing. Also, when you get to the end of the install, do not "test" the video card mode as that will hang the installer.

After it is installed, everything works.

Thanks for the reply. I have tried that now, but having trouble with the selection of text mode. I suspect it is supposed to happen when the screen message comes up before Mandriva starts booting, but that message flashes by so fast, I can't read it! Will keep trying, now I know what the answer is.
 
Got it going

OK Thanks again. I am up and running now. The problem was that I needed to surrender control of the cursor to Parallels: that allowed me to input "text" at the boot prompt. I then went tthrough the text installation [fortunately I've done one of those before]. I found selecting the monitor an issue: the text on the screens kept coming up as blocks instead of letters, but I guessed and managed to get a 1200x980 resolution [from memory], which is far better than I had with the Live CD. Still some isssues, like how do I get GNOME isntead of KDE {I think I installed both] and I haven't yet connected to the 'net or a printer. But I am on the way :))
 
Choosing GNOME is in a drop down list "session type" at the login screen.

If auto-login is turned on in KDE you will have to turn it off before you can switch to GNOME.
