I appreciate your response. The problem I'm dealing with is this: the machine automatically reboots itself after only a couple of seconds of displaying the login screen, invariably, every time. I thought the issue was the machine attempting to boot in safe mode, because it started the last time I tried to boot in safe mode. I used f8 to get to the menu you referred to and choose "start windows normally", but as it turns out, this did not solve the problem. I chose a disk repair option from the f8 menu, which eventually returned a message about being unsuccessful and asking me to send an error report. I then checked the "diagnostic and repair details" report, which all seemed okay except for this at the end:
Root cause found:
-----------------------
Unspecified changes to system configuration might have caused the problem.
Repair action: System Restore
Result: Failed. Error code = 0x1f
Time taken = 40344 ms
Repair action: System files integrity check and repair
Result: Failed. Error code 0x490
Time taken: 211031 ms
Any help would be awesome.
Thanks,
-R.
