memory settings for guest OS

Hi all,

Had a question about memory settings for the guest OS.

I have 1.5gb of onboard memory. When I use the wizard to set up a new guest OS it says 844Mb maximum recommended. What happens if I adjust that higher? If I'm inside the guest OS chances are I'm not doing anything in the native OS.

Some of the programs I'm running inside the XP guest OS are a slight bit slower than expected. I'd like to know if I can speed it up by giving it more memory from the native OS, which isn't really being used at that time.

Hmmm parallels is a kinda slow performer with linux as a host. Windows feels... sluggish. I tried disabling some visual details and it helps, but nowhere near to VMWare.
Bottom line, you'll have to live with it for a while and hope they fix it or switch.

Maybe David has some particular issues, as I have myself and a customer on OpenSuSE 10.1 with XP and W2K VM's, that may be a bit slower than native, but not at all slugish. Both of us are using 1Gb memory total, with 468 and 512 respectively dedicated to the VM.

Maybe actual processing speed is not slower, but perceived speed certainly is. As you probably know, the later is actually more important to the vast majority of users.
Using linux guests is a pain... feels slower than VNC (which is already slow).
