Messing with a Good Thing - Install XP SP3?

I had a lot of problems getting Windows XP installed. Now that it is running, it is exceeding my expectations. None-the-less, I feel compelled to install SP3. Currently, I have SP2.

Any thoughts whether I should do this or not?

If I should, is there any specific procedure I should follow to not mess up a good thing?

I just simply run Windows update and let it do its thing. Worked in 66% of times (two VMs, one failed on first try).

Backup your VM first, if the update goes wrong, trash and recover from backup.
