We have a new Macbook Pro and I'm migrating all information to the new machine.
Is there an easy way to copy the VM across or do I need to reinstall from scratch? I'm trying to avoid having to reinstall and setup all the WinXP OS & software if I can avoid it.
Yes, there is an easy way. You need to have Parallels Desktop installed on your new Mac. Then just copy the folder or .pvm bundle of Virtual Machine to your new Mac. It is usually located in /Documents/Parallels/.
If you have Parallels Desktop 3.0 you need to copy the folder of Virtual Machine to the same folder.
If you have Parallels Desktop 4.0 you need to copy the .pvm bundle of Virtual Machine to the same folder.
Hi, and what if I was trying to transfer a Parallels v2.2 VM from a Boot Camp partition to a v4 Virtual HDD image?
I've also had to retire the previous laptop by now and only have a Disk image (.DMG) of the Boot Camp partition.
I have already tried setting up a new VM with a Virtual HDD and copy the old Boot camp partition to it but when I try this I get errors whilst copying and it renders the Virtual drive unusable and I have to start again.
