Missing HDD file

I have converted to Parallels 4. My Windows XP system is working but is very slow (it was before as well). I believe that I need to expand the size of the partition. My problem is that I cannot find the winxp.hdd file anywhere.

The user/documents/parallel file is empty and the
user/library/parallels file has only one file in it - the winxp.pvm executable.

I have entered both .hdd and winxp.hdd into spotlight and get nothing.

Where is this file? Am I missing something here???

What you have found (winxp.pvm) is what you seek. This is a new format of virtual machine in Parallels 4.0.
This is a bundle and it contains different files including winxp.hdd. You can see it if you right-click on winxp.pvm and choose "Show package content" option.
Increasing disk space is better to perform with Parallels Image Tool. Since 4.0 version it is possible to add the unallocated space to the last volume (C:\ or, for example, D:\).
Also, there are some more general troubleshooting steps if you feel that Guest OS has low performance:
1. Change the virtual memory allocated to the virtual machine.
2. Check what resident software is running in the Guest OS (in particular, an anti-virus program is a common cause of low performance).
3. In Windows guest OS, go to Start -> Control Panel and click Switch to Classic View option.
