Mounting a vm on sd card?

I'm running out of space on my 2006 MBP. I also need multiple vms. Can I mount my vms on SD cards? Different card for each?
I know that parallels needs to be on the machine (app on HD), but it's my understanding that the vm can be on a class 10 sd card....
I would also like to use this as a migration tool when moving to my new (soon to be purchased) MBP..
 
Performance in what way? The cards are rated at 10MBs minimum...
The first thing I'm looking for is space savings (internal Laptop Solid state hard drives are not inexpensive on Apple products), and then of course the portability of only loading the VM I need at the time, instead of having them on the HD just sitting there when not in use. The main VM is over 80GB and the others are 10 ea, so you can see my concern. I am in the field often, only needing a specific VM depending on the equipment I'm plugging into, and don't want external drives lashed to my laptop...
I'm using the VMs for spcific programs on them, not OS testing, so OS taxing isn't the driving force on speed, but reliability is. That an the VMs ability to still see other perifrials, but that should be the APPs job, not the VPP filw...

i can't speak to SD cards, as i've never done it. but i have tried using a usb flash drive and it's painful. while it boots and runs, it's best described as miserable. i wouldn't suggest it.

instead, go out and get a portable hard drive. while it's a little more cumbersome to carry around, it's going to give you a lot better performance.

i have a 256gb SSD for my main system drive. i keep 2 VMs and a handful of essential files on there. i use the portable drives to keep the rest of the VMs, iTunes and iPhoto libraries on for a total of 700gb for VMs, 120gb for iPhoto and 500gb for iTunes
