Mouse in Linux

Has anyone else had this problem. I have my mouse hooked up through a USB port and running Ubuntu. For some reason Ubuntu will not recognize that my mouse has a button 2, button 6 and button 7. When I run xev it does not recognize these buttons when I click them even though I have my xorg.conf configure correctly. Does anyone else have this problem?
 
Since the mouse has to work in both host and guest, it's captured by the host and virtualized to the guest. For any features to be recognized, there mst be a host driver that understands them, then some or all of them will be virtualized. My two button wheel mouse (with the wheel as a third button) works. I haven't tried anything else.
