Mouse not working in Parallels 12...

I just upgraded to parallels 12 from 10. Then I upgraded from capitan to sierra. I can open parallels, and I can move my mouse, but I can't click. I need to open my accounting software and can't do anything. Do I need to also upgrade my windows? I'm running 8.1
Any help is appreciated.

Please try the below steps and let us know how it goes
1.Make sure the virtual machine is in shut down state.
2.Open virtual machine configuration.
3.Switch to Hardware tab > Mouse & Keyboard > set Mouse to Optimize for games.
4.In Hardware tab switch to Boot Order > extend Advanced settings > in Boot flags box paste the following flag:
devices.usb.mouse=0
 
no it didn't work. the screen has windows open and the x is grey I cannot click on anything. I'm wondering if I downloaded the wrong parallels? Is there a different one for Canada? I realize now I'm on a US site with this.
