Moving Parallels to a new Mac

My title, Moving Parallels to a new Mac, was my search question and I am surprised it did not display a relevant thread to read.

I am up to date with Parallels version 9.0 and have one Virtual machine installed with Windows XP.

I just purchased a new MBP and need to hit the ground at my work place with Parallels and my Virtual machine working.

I don't want to guess what to do and would love to read a proven procedure for this task that we must all face every few years.

Well, at least you didn't get hit with "To many activations". Turns out Parallels provides you no way to deactivate the previous machine. So prepare yourself for next year if you upgrade, you'll probably hit it then. Or if you need to reinstall OSX, have warranty repair, or need to do a Time Machine restore, or just simply uninstall and reinstall as their directions say to do sometimes.

Like most software products, Parallels limits the number of activations per license. This is driven by hardware ID meaning that it can be activated without issue if you move to a new Mac. Our customer service teams are able to assist with customer who do have a issues and receive an activation error message.

The article only mentions the PVM file. What about the Parallels application?

I'm GUESSING that I would download the current version of Parallels from your website and use my existing incense code to get it working.
I did subscribe to a extended download privilege of my upgrade to Parallels 9.0.

I would then import the PVM file.

I am only guessing but is this the procedure that is not being directly addressed?

I get my new MBP on Friday and have to have it working with Windows and Autocad on Monday morning.

Do I call at a certain point to get the license agreement approved on my new machine?
Can this be done on the weekend when I will be setting up my new MBP?

I don't mind if I'm told that I am better off just getting a new License.

I just want Parallels to work with the fewest variable system configurations.

Hi Robin,

You would download the latest version of onto your new Mac then proceed with the instructions in the KB. You should not have any issues with re-activating the license on your new Mac unless you have installed the same key multiple times across different hardware.

I just had this ISSUE happen to me while really needing to re-install due to a hardware malfunction. The problem is that I really need Parallels installed right now for some mission critical work, but your support is not able to fix this immediately. Instead, my issue has been escalated and it will take up to 24 hours for someone to contact me. This is completely unacceptable and has convinced me that Parallels cannot be used for mission critical situations. I will not recommend this product to anyone anymore.

In my situation the software cost is not super critical.
I do not want to inconvenience an IT professorial who charge an hour more then a software purchase costs.
I like to be invisible with my mac to the pc dominated world.
I only want a PC immolator like Parallels to be as seamless as possible. The other one, vware, or something is not understood by my IT guys. Parallels is what they know enough about to make you survive in a PC environment.
I only try to accommodate the expensive IT consultant who will report back to my boss how much I cost the company fixing the mac guys (me) computer to retrieve files and print construction documents.
FWIW Parallels has served me well in a PC corperate world.
