Moving VM to External unexpected error code 0

Have Parallels 6/Snow Leopard/Win 7VM - Im trying to drag and drop my VM onto an external HD and am getting an error "The operation can't be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code 0)." Have also tried copying and pasting and same error.

How is the external HD formatted? Is it Mac OS Extended (HFS+) ? Are permissions on the external disk ignored or not?

Have you tried restarting the Mac, then without running Parallels, copy the .pvm to make sure none of the files are in use.

Can you copy the .pvm to another location on the same partition? Then copy from that location to the external HD?

Are you running third party utilities like virus or disk protection software? Time Machine?

Check Console.app for any related error messages when you try to copy.

Maybe try copying using commands in Terminal.app.
