Moving VMs to external HDD

My VMs are starting to cause a bit of a crush on my disk space

Having done everything I can to slim them down, I'm considering moving them over to an external drive.

Looking at this Knowledge Base (http://kb.parallels.com/en/114118) article it should be simple.

However the ~/Documents/Parallels folder is empty.

When I right-click on a VM in Parallels and choose "show in Finder" the VMs are actually in ~/Library/Parallels

Is there any additional risk to moving the accounts from this account.
 
Hi Dankell,

The default folder for Parallels Desktop virtual machines is either Documents/Parallels folder inside your user folder, or/Users/Shared/Parallels .

1. Connect your external Hard Drive to the destination Mac.
2. Copy .pvm file from the external Hard Drive .
3. Double-click on your .pvm file to start your Virtual Machine.

To answer your question directly, the .pvms packages can be run from anywhere as long as PDM is installed on the computer. There no additional risk if for some reason you are moving the pvms from that folder, just double click on it on its new location to re-register it.

(this only applies to non-Bootcamp based VMs)
