ms office apps jumping between mac spaces

Today I started seeing odd behavior whenever I have two excel or word windows (on the windows vm) open in two different mac spaces: it will start auto-switching back and forth repeatedly between the two spaces. I've rebooted parallels and rebooted my mac with no luck.
