"My Boot Camp" and "Windows 7"

Hi,

I just configured Parallels 5 on my MacBook Pro 2010. For the installation, I used my Boot Camp partition, as I still boot into Windows 7 for heavy workloads.

My question is, please see the picture I attached, what does that My Boot Camp virtual machine do? I have always started Windows 7, as that is what it was named during the installation.

Can I remove the My Boot Camp virtual machine all together (remove it from the list and delete the virtual machine files), or should I just remove it from the list (if so, why did the setup create it)?

I click on the shortcut to My Boot Camp, and it began configuring the virtual machine. I forced it to quit, as I did not want to have to deal with re-activating hundreds of dollars worth of programs a third time (one time with boot camp, and another with Parallels 5).

Please reply someone with expert knowledge reply (not just oh to be safe just remove it from the list it bothers me when I do not know what something does), as it seems no one replies on these forums these days to help customers.

It seems I'm after your steps, since I got the same two instances here too...

So, I first logged in to Windows 7 VM

Used it for 1 day.
Yesterday I said.... Okay, let's log in to the My Boot Camp one... So what it does is to install a 2nd Virtual Machine.
I let it finish the installation. I tried to install the PD Apps again in Win 7, so it gave an error.
So, after that, I just continue using Win7 in the My BootCamp. And went ahead and deleted the Windows 7 one. without no impact on my current My BootCamp VM.

Of course this will not help you, since you have the other case. And also, don't know why It created 2 VMs...
I would say that it detects that you have a BootCamp partition and it creates the label only, automatically. Because as you and I experienced, the actual VM for My BootCamp is not created.

Since you've been able to activate your softs correctly... I would ignore/delete MyBootCamp option...
At the end, it just deletes a single file with the VM. (In my case, the Windows 7 VM has already been created). So in your case, I think it will just delete the same file, since it seems you started the process and then cancelled it.

Nice to have someone reply to the posts here. I went ahead and deleted the My Boot Camp, and everything seems fine with my Windows 7 virtual machine.

Regarding activation: It seems that Office 2010 wants to be activated every time I change from Boot Camp to Parallels 5. Not a big deal, but it is worth mentioning.
