Naturally Speaking

I'm running Parallels Desktop 1848 on a MacBook Pro. The MacBook Pro contains a 2.16GHz Core Duo with 2GB of RAM. Parallels Desktop is running WinXP/SP2. I've installed Naturally Speaking 9 on the system and have experimented with different setups to try to get it to perform well.

Can anyone recommend an optimum memory allocation for Parallels that will allow it to perform satisfactorily? If I set the memory allocation too low, i get virtual memory message from XP. If I set it too high, it takes forever for Parallels and Naturally Speaking to startup.

Hi,

I'd love to know how you got your mic working to use the naturally speaking. I have version 1896.2 on a macbook with 2Gb of RAM.

But in XP the voice recording advanced tab is greyed out in Sounds and Audio Devices Properties.

I've edited the Registry for the FullDuplex, HalfDuplex and MicDetected keys but no joy. And ideas you have would be great.

Oops! The audio in port on the macbook does not supply power to the mic.

That's my question answered. Now let's see if we can answer yours.

This has been discussed in an earlier thread, just do a search on 'dragon'. As I recall, the consensus was 1 GB Mac, 1 GB VM seemed to work about right.

A number of us use DNS9 with satisfactory results and there are ways to dictate from DNS directly into the Mac applications. Check out the clever solutions in that thread.
