new ethernet adapter?

so this is a bit odd but it makes sense for virtual host to guest stuff.......

did an adapter called ethernet vi2 get added to anyone elses network control panel?
 
yeah, that just now got added to mine when i switched to en0 (built-in ethernet). not entirely sure why as it appears to be working over the original ethernet device

i did however briefly turn on "bridged ethernet" which may have done it.
 
yea I thought that is what happened, I found it a little odd with out a warning it was going to do something like that

It appeared as a hardware device only after installing Parallels Beta 4. It wasn't there with the prior 2 beta releases (at least on my MacBook).
 
Correction. On reboot the vi2 adapter goes away. It is not present now.

It may have also been there on the prior 2 Betas.

Not sure when the OS detects it. It was before I started a VM.
 
Same mystery ethernet adapter (vi2) present now on my stock MBP.

Problem for me is that it has hijacked my networking all together. I can't get the Buit-in Ethernet adapter to recognize a live cable.

And this new adapter will not go away no matter what.

Please Help.

This is interesting. I was having trouble getting wireless to work in a Ubuntu guest. I was finally able to get it to work by setting the VI2 adapter manually to the same parameters as the Ubuntu manual network settings. So it appears to be useful for things other than host-only networking.
 
How do you remove this?? I am having trouble with my wireless in joining a wireless network at a hotel i am staying at. Does anyone know how to remove this? I tried uninstalling parallels (trash + script), reboots, clicking "remove" in the networking preferences, nothing works!

Here's how to disable vi2 in your MacOSX:
- Open "System Preferences"
- Click "Internet & Network" icon
- Select "Network Port Configurations" from the "Show" dropdown
- Select "Ethernet Adaptor (vi2)" in the list
- Click "Delete..." button
- Click "Apply Now"

BTW, there's no reason for virtual adapter (vi2) to interfere with your
AirPort ability to join the network.

Serv, This disables the adapter (removes checkmark) but still does NOT delete it from the list. Is there a way to delete it?
 
Correct it does not delete it, simply disables it but the adapter is still present at a "ifconfig" from terminal. The simple fact is if you remove parallels it should remove the adapter it created!! Has anyone figured out or know how to remove this? Andrew??
 
To remove virtual adapter driver completely start Terminal and issue
sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/Pvsvnic.kext
then restart your Mac.

Done what you said, but it still listed (greyed) in the "Network Port Configurations".

So the "sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/Pvsvnic.kext" did not delete it, just disabled it.

Funny behavior upon enabling vi2?

So, I enabled vi2 via the instructions provided in this forum. And then rebooted my macbook. After reboot, when I tried to start the Parallels VM, I got device errors twice. The third time the Parallels VM started. Did anyone else experience similar behavior?

Also, I am using bridged networking (really don't intend to use the host-only adapter). Yet, in System_Preference-->Networking, I see vi2 as active, and having an IP-address. Is this the expected behavior?
