no network card installed

Hello,

Please forgive me for asking this. I tried for a long time to find a thread with a solution, to no avail. I have not been this frustarted since, well, last time I had to use Windows ( a few years ago).

I just installed build 3188 on a just-arrived iMac core 2 duo running 10.4.9. I used the bootcamp Windows XP I installed upon arrival of the computer, which works just fine.

All installations went without glitches that I could detect.

While in Network diagnostic, I am told "WIndows could not detect any wireless or wired network card installed".

On the OSX side, Network preference pane shows (both with green lights)

Parallels Host-Guest (with IP 10.37.129.2)
Parallel NAT (with IP 10.211.55.2)

The VM is setup with Shared networking (I tried deleting and creating this several times), as well as the other settings.

Does anyone know a solution to this.

Yes! I did that immediately after creating the VM (I have installed parallels before in several machines, and it always just worked...)
 
Kinda strange...

Can you please check that you have NIC available in VM configuration? Also, please check that it is Enabled and Connected at Startup.

If it is, then try _removing_ it from VM's configuration, starting Windows, stopping it, adding NIC to configuration and starting Windows again. Hopefully, it'll detect new hardware and let you go online.

Same problem-no network card installed - resolved

I'm having the same problem after updating to build 3188 on a Mac Pro/10.4.9. Running XP Pro SP2, networking was fine before the Parallels update. After the update and after installing Parallels tools, the my VM is set to use Network Adapter 1; shared networking and the icon at the bottom of the VM windows shows the Adapter status:connected, but Windows does not show an ethernet port/card. In Parallels Tools Center in Windows, it says "Your virtual machine configuration does not include network adapter.

I tried shutting down the VM, unchecking the network in the VM prefs, starting the VM, shutting down the VM, checking the network on in the VM prefs and starting the VM. Still does not work.

I was about to submit this post, but then I tried one more thing...

I re-installed Parallels Tools and it did warn that I was running an older version of Tools than 3188. The install completed and on Windows restart - network worked.

It seems the first install of Parallels Tools 3188 did not complete properly and re-installing Tools fixed the problem for me.
 
I was involved in an upgrade to 3188 where it took three times loading the Parallels Tools before the operation was complete. Kinda weird, but hey, it worked.
