No Start Menu, Errors, Etc.

I had a problem where Windows XP would no longer start. I thought I fixed it with a chkdsk /r command. Running that got Windows to launch, but when I finally went to use Windows I found that I have no Start Menu, no Task Bar, and running apps gives me some errors, and I can't copy and paste items. I ran chkdsk again, but that didn't help - although it said that it found and repaired stuff.

I'm thinking that I will need to reinstall Parallels and Windows - but I am hoping that someone may give me an idea of something else that may work before I go to that extreme.

Thanks for any ideas.

George
