odd behavior of windows window in microphone setup

Parallels 6 Desktop for Mac, Windows 7 OS.

When I try to provide the USB microphone to the Windows OS, I get a message about Unable to connect Mixer Device 1....

But the microphone seems to work in the Guest OS anyway, except when I try to run the Microphone Setup within it and I get to the point of reading the phrase "Peter dictates to his computer. He prefers it to typing...". At about this point, even though the microphone green bar indicates that input is being received, the setup window disappears as though someone had closed it! WTF?

It is very difficult to configure a microphone for speech recognition (or anything), it the window that allows me
to do that will not stay open!

Any ideas? Anyone?
 
Having the same problem

For some reason sometimes if I remove the microphone in windows and add it back again it, it will will work, but not always
