Opening Windows Outlook Appointment

Hello.
I'm running El Capitian and Win 10.
Sometimes I get an Outlook invite in Windows Outlook (latest version) and it displays as "unsupported .ics", but I know it was sent by a valid Outlook user.
When I double click on it, it goes to Mac Calendar instead of Windows Outlook.
I have set the Mac Calendar to default to outlook, and this only happens periodically.
Any thoughts?
