anyone have any luck installing OpenSolaris using Parallels Desktop?

I entered "Other Solaris" during the OS Assistant.

After "Configuring Devices" there are some lines like:

asy0: UART @ 3f8 scratch register: expected 0x5a, got 0xff
Cannot identify UART chip at 3f8

(Cannot identify UART chip at 2f8)

Mounting local partitions/cdroms
Reading ZFS config: done.

then apparently hangs.

CDROM (mounted as ISO) doesn't appear to be accessed anymore.

Hm, very interesting, error is pointing to missing ACPI, try to select Windows Vista as OS type

hmm - not convinced that worked either.

After trying to boot the VM, my machine froze (not the mouse) for a bit and then saw the OpenSolaris splash screen and then dropped back to the command screen (see next attachment)

Ok, you need to modify X
what server you selected Xsun, or Xorg, change it and set color depth to 16

when do i have an opportunity to modify X?

I am trying to get the system to boot from grub!

could you post more detailed instructions beginning from the time you mount and boot the Live CD?

I was able to install opensolaris, but I can't get the network to work. I followed the instructions on page 95, that seemed to work, but the interface is not getting an ip address.

Check are you able to use Solaris in Bridged Ethernet mode, also check using ifconfig -a in Mac is there any interface with 169.254.x.x

It seems good,
Try to recall did you configure network interface during installation?
If not you probably need to install RTL 8029 driver for Solaris

I changed my machine type from "other os" to "Solaris 10", then re-installed the network driver and then rebooted, now it seems okay.
