Openstep 4.2 install

Hi - tried to install Openstep 4.2 on a Virtual Disc today. I have the CD image and the 4 driver and install floppys, but I feel far from safe proceeding with the installation. First I dont know which CD-ROM driver to install - after that the installer asks for anything I dont understand at all (... hd%d ... selection of sort). Besides, I can launch the floppies (after replacing the extension with .fdd) but I cant get the CD image to be enabled (I have changes the .image to .img).

In short - has anybody created the the Parallels drive with Opernstep 4.2. successful and can give me some short instructions how to proceed? The different pages mebtioned here and there weren't that helpful.

First in order to install Openstep your CD needs to have the extension iso. So for example the CD should be openstep.iso and the floppys must have an fdd extension, ie. bootfloppy.fdd. You must first boot with the install disk. Then the drivers disk then the beta drivers disk 1. See if this works.
 
Well that worked - thanks. But I still need to know some details of the installation, i.e. which CD-ROM driver I shall use a.s.f.
 
With the drivers floppy fdisk installed you need to choose a scsi controller, here choose Adaptec 154x, then unconnect the driver floppy and connect the beta drivers disk 1 then press 8 and then choose optio 4 i believe EIDE/ATAPI 4.03 this should get openstep to install.
 
Well, one step further: I got NextStep to install as suggested and rebooted after install with the floppy and CD unlinked. OpenStep started but stalls after 2-3 sec - the spinning wheel stops then and thats is for the moment...
 
Yes, that is because you did not edit your VM settings. You need to click on the edit button before starting your VM and then go to the VM Flags tab, then you will see a check box for Enable Intel VT-x support, in order to boot openstep this MUST BE UNCHECKED!
 
Now I am stuck again: I follow the instructions but when NextStep initializes for Installation, it says NO CD ROM FOUND (followed with some option ... hd%d ...). Yesterday I got beyond this message, but I cant do the same.

Edit: it worked, but I had to stop and restart Parallels first. Dont ask, why...

BUT - still no final success: OpenStep starts and during CHECKING TH DISC either a reboot or a message box with UNIX options appears... Cant get beyond.

I use a 1 GB expandable HD probably the error is here?

EDIT: I changed disk to fixed size. no change.

-v when starting reveals the following:
CANT OPEN /dev/rsd0a
CANT CHECK FILE SYSTEM
manually fsck
REBOOT FAILED HELP!

Thats it, pretty much...

Ok, the hard drive corrup messages you are seeing has nothing to do with the size of the drive. It means that the EIDE/ATAPI 4.03 is not compatible with you Macbook, so re do the install but this time choose the EIDE/ATAPI 4.01 driver and I bet you it will work.

The VESA video driver is in the latest patch software for openstep, the latest is patch for. If you search the internet you should have no problems finding it. After you download the patch you need to get it on to openstep. What I did was I downloaded the TAR version and made an ISO out of it so next would see it as a tar, I copied the tar file to my openstep then you open up a terminal session and use the command: tar xf nameofpatch.tar , Then you will see a file with the .pkg extension. This is a package. In order to install this package you must be logged in as root, then you run the installer on the .pkg and install for intel which should be the default choice, then reboot then after the reboot go into the config program and choose VESA video driver.
