Out of disk space

Parallels 6, build 6.0.12106.
Mac Mini 1.83 MHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM, Leopard 10.5.8. 30GB free disk space.
Windows XP/SP3 VM, 24GB virtual disk. Ran fine for months/years.
Mini froze today. Restarted, no problem.
Started Parallels Desktop, tried to restart VM. Got Alert: "Out of disk space. Not enough free disk space on your Mac. Free some disk space on your Mac and try again."
Tried running in Safe Mode, same result.
Tried booting VM from install CD, same result.
Re-installed Parallels Desktop 6, same result.

Any ideas?
 
You probably have an expanding disk and your Mac disk is almost out of space. 30 GB is really cutting it close. If you can, delete stuff from the VM disk and then compress the disk in the VM configuration. Chances are your expanding disk has expanded well beyond its initial size, wasting space.

Um, I think not

Yes, it's an expandable disk, able to go up to 32 GB, but currently holding about 13GB. 30GB of free space has been fine more months, and should have continued to be.

But as I tried various paths to repair, it became clear there were bigger problems with the rest of the Mini's disk. Disk Utility couldn't fix it, but Disk Warrior did. And now the VM boots again as well.

So thanks for your suggestion, but I managed to repair it another way.
