P8 and W8 installed - now what?

Parallels 8 and Windows 8 seemed to have installed ok on my new iMac. I have a Parallels/Windows icon on the desktop. I click on it and nothing seems to happen.

I set this up to run "like a Mac" ... but I don't see anything running.

I have not yet installed any Windows programs. Do I need to do that? Might sound dumb ... but I'm (obviously) at a loss

Not really sure what I did. Maybe it just took a while?

Oh ... I searched (via Mac Spotlight) for "Internet Explorer" just to see if maybe that browser loaded when I installed Windows. I found it! Clicked and it opened Windows and then IE opened. Which is nice, because I never was able to run IE on my previous setup (Parallels 6, Windows 7 on a 2006 iMac); IE would open but would look all funky and terrible and it never worked.

So ok, guess I'm up and running. Just need to install a few Windows programs to get use out of this thing.
