Palm USB Synch

Just for thoroughness, I thought the inability to hotsynch to palm devices, at least Treo 650 phones should also be listed here.

In the main thread, Parallels adminin has responded that they are aware of the problem and will have it fixed before the final build is released.

I hope that is soon. There are palm downloads and installs that I can only do through windows and it is a pain to use my old Virtual PC software.

Palm Sync

I went out on a limb and we're getting Macs for our sales reps. Unfortunately, to demo our product (www.principalm.com), they need to either use:

TapSmart HandShare from MobilityWare.com to display Palm screens
or
Pocket Controller from Soti.net to display Windows Mobile screens

Frankly, if there was a way to do a Palm or Windows Mobile demo on a Macintosh (so we can use GoToMeeting or WebEx to do remote demos), I wouldn't even need Windows XP at all.

So there you have it -- probably 7 machines in my office alone need Parallels with this feature. And I'm not the only company that develops for handhelds and wants to use Macs instead of PC's.

Please fix this, or let me know ASAP if I have to back out of the Parallels decision and get some Windows laptops...

Pocket Controller does work

It turns out that Pocket Controller (from www.soti.net) does work if you turn on the "Connect USB devices automatically" checkbox in USB Controller in the configuration editor. You also have to install ActiveX.

This allows you to attach a Windows Mobile device to your Mac and do a demo to a larger group (or over the internet, or to a display projector)

Once I installed build 3186, TapSmart HandShare worked as well! First I got synching working on my Mac by itself. Then I got synching working when under Parallels. To do this, I had to do the "connect manually" option in the Palm Desktop software. Once I'd done that, HandShare connected perfectly and easily.
