Parallel Tools Install Won't Finalize

I've searched and others' problems with tools seem to differ from mine. I've attached a screen shot. I recently upgraded from V3 to V4 and the upgrade seemed to complete and my VM was converted; however, I cannot get the parallel tools install to finalize. It appears to go through the entire process, then hangs for hours. I've tried restarting, uninstall/reinstall of Parallels Desktop, etc., with no success. The setup.exe file is there; it shows up as the D: drive in the "My Computer" window. It starts and the parallel tools wizard appears, and then it runs. But, it never reverses itself, and since it never completes, tools is not listed in the add/remove programs list in control panel. I have McAfee Security Center installed on the VM and have disabled that as well. I run Win XP w/SP2 installed as of now. I have submitted a service ticket #665689 (yesterday), but am still waiting for a response.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Open Parallels desktop => Do not Start the Virtual Machine => click on Configure => Click on General => Change the OS type to Linux and OS version to Ubuntu => Click on Ok.

Now try to install Parallel tools.
This would fix the issue.
 
I gave this a shot this afternoon, with no luck. Overall, the process was slower, but eventually it hung at precisely the same point as before. What's next? Thanks.
 
This procedure was unsuccessful. And it appears my replies are not being posted, and I am unable to post a reply under the trouble ticket either.
 
For anyone who happens to look, after a series of unsuccessful solutions via email from support, I solved my problem by installing a new VM, based upon a recommendation from another user on this forum. My needs for using Parallels are very simple. I have to use Internet Explorer to access one commercial database. That's it. All the rest of my needs can be met within the Mac realm.
 
When the Parallels Tools seems to stall, try to move the window and see if there's a pop under like a confirmation dialog of file substitution, the installer is probably set to show itself as always on top thus obfuscating other smaller windows.
 
Thanks for your suggestion. I moved the windows around looking for any sort of dialog box or error message and there weren't any. In the end, it would appear that the entire problem is with the conversion of the VM I had running under Parallels V3. I created a new VM and installed WinXP all over again and the tools installed fine for the new VM.
