Parallels 10 and Mavericks

I have just purchased Parallels Switch to Mac Essentials and now upgraded to Parallels 10 and I have successfully installed Windows 8.1

Now I would like to install a copy of Mavericks into a VM but I'm not sure where to get the install file from. Would I need to contact Apple and ask them to send me the file or DVD ? or am I able to download it?

Apologies but I'm very new to Parallels and virtualisation

Mavericks may be downloaded for free in Apple's APP store for the Mac (OS X). You must login to the APP store with a iTunes ID (free). You can register for one in the APP store. Look on the right side of the page near the top of the right side. I believe you will see "Welcome!" or similar there.

Note that this is a pretty big download and may take a while to download, especially if you don't have a pretty fast broadband connection to the internet.

I am bit unsure about your setup, but if you are, as I expect running on Mavericks Mac, you should be able to install from recovery partition. At least PD9 used to be able to do it before Parallels broke it. I assume PD10 can do it, but since I am still on PD9, I cannot confirm.
Alternatively, it used to be possible to download Maverics installation image from App store (I just did it week ago) and you can use that to install from this image. Again, assuming PD10 has been fixed as this was broken by Parallels some time ago.

If you search Parallels knowledge base they have more or less step-like procedures.

In any case you start with creating new virtual machine and follow the wizard. It is relatively easy and there is little you have to decide ... even though, after getting my mother today to type in password in her computer over the phone nothing is really trivial

Hi,

As from the symptoms you have reported, most likely when you have upgraded to Parallels Desktop 10, the Tools were not installed successfully, which in other hand could be related to Windows integrity violation.
I would recommend you to do the following:

1) be sure you have a back up of the Windows.pvm file
2) when you are booted to the Windows, please open command prompt as admin -> run "sfc /scannow" command without quotes. It will check you system for system errors.
3) If the output of the command will be like "we found some corruption" - this is the case and you need to fix your Windows first before further upgrading.

But first, is there an upgrade path from WIN7? I hear it's coming if it isn't here yet. I saw that Win is finally getting smart using the Apple model of OS distribution.

Secondly, is there a step-by-step to install from an .iso file or a download? I had no problem installing WIN7 from an .iso file on a DVD, so might not need it if it's the same procedure... Let me know what you did.

Do you mean on the BootCamp? Or in Parallels Desktop virtual machine?

Upgrading Windows 7 to 9 in the virtual machines is exactly the same as on PCs. This Microsoft article can help.

The procedure hasn't changed - just connect the .iso image to your virtual machine and follow installation prompts.
