I had a problem with a Mac OS X 10.7 VM I was using with Parallels Desktop 11 on my Mac. Several applications I had installed in it were highly customised, so I decide to restore a backup of the VM from around 8 months ago. I restored the backup but Parallels refused to open it saying it was from a different version of Parallels. Is there some way I can just update the VM? Surely when I installed the Parallels Desktop 11 Application upgrade it updated my VMs then?

Sure, you can just update Windows, like you can do on a real PC

    Hi Maria,
Thanks for your email, but I may not have described the problem clearly. The VM is a Mac OS X 10.7 which I want to keep at 10.7 (I do not want to upgrade the operating system). The problem is (I think) that the VM was created with an earlier version of Parallels Desktop, as it is a backup of a VM from maybe a year ago. The issue is that Parallels will not open/launch/access the VM. I am a little busy right now, so i will have another look at it in a couple of days time and take note of the error reported.

    Many thanks,
    Stuart

  4. Thanks for the explanation, @StuartR2
And did you get any error once you trying to start VM?

  5. BTW, what you VM size is? (I mean the .pvm file)
