Parallels 5 Upgrade - BSOD on all Virtual Machines

Having same problem.

Spent ONE hour with tech support. Finally had me change CPU to "1" and that fixed the problem. No explanation as to why it could no longer be set to "2". Oh well. Hope this works for you.

Had me change a couple of other settings but the CPU change seemed to be the one that worked.
 
Finally worked - XP with Parallels 5 Upgrade

I uninstalled v. 5, reinstalled v. 4, restored a VM of XP SP3 from a backup, changed configuration to 1 CPU, reinstalled v. 5 and then it worked, not longer a black screen. Guess I was too quick to upgrade to version 5 of Parallels and can't believe it was so much work for a configuration many people might have, and no warning in the documentation.
 
Had the problem described in the thread. I followed the instructions to get Windows to boot. After Parallels Tools were re-installed I was able to increase the number of CPUs back to 2 cores. Works fine now.
 
Works for me

All is in the title, after setting up the processor to 1, re launch the virtual machine, install parallels desktops security tools, i get back to 2 processor and it works perfectly.

The other way around as well...

I had this happen as well but my VM was originally set for two processors under v. 4 and v. 5 had reset it to 1 processor. Changed the setting back to 2 processors and it started right up.
 
The 1 CPU fix worked for me

I got both THREAD_RETURNED_AT_BAD_IRQL and IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL errors during boot and setting the CPU to 1 and rebooting did the trick! =)
 
Worked for me!

This solution to set the processor back to 1 has worked for me, but I almost deleted my Windows image and installed a new one after having rebooted a zillion times yesterday. Really makes me angry at the Parallels team, don't they test this stuff out before releasing updates like this?
 
Did not work for me, still get a BSOD

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

I can start Windows in Bootcamp but not in Parallels.
 
Didn't work for me

on MacPro upgrade isn't working. Seemed like it never upgraded the virtual machines. Did the upgrade fine on a MacBook Pro.

Switching to 1 CPU took care of the BSOD for me ... P Tools installed fine, shut down, switched back to 2 CPUs, and all is good.

(I'm on an 8-core Mac Pro early 2008 with Snow Leopard 10.6.1 with an XP Pro SP3 VM from Parallels Desktop 4.0.)

Grateful for these forums so that I found this thread and solution! Whew.

AppleMNT.sys

Everything was working with PD4 Win7 Ultimate on Bootcamp
