Parallels 5 - upgrading OSX to Lion

Hi,

I'm currently on OSX 10.6.8 and running Parallels 5.0.9376 & Windows 7

I'm going to update to Lion - do I need to update Parallels?

Also, when I run the Parallels 'check for updates' it tells me I am up-to-date. Is this correct?

If someone could advise that would be great.

Only PDM 6 (latest minor version) and 7 are compatible with OS X Lion, you'll have to buy the upgrade to 7, running the update process only checks for the latest minor version in that major version (your major version being 5).
 
Yes, please. Upgrade Parallels to 7 first, and then OSX to Lion.
If you upgrade OSX first Parallels 5 will not work under Lion.

Memory & Processor - Lion & Parallels 7

I am planning to buy a new Mac and installing Lion & Parallels 7. How much memory and how fast of a processor do you recommend?
 
I don't see a previous answer to my question of how much memory and how fast of a processor you recommend I have in a new Mac if I want to use Lion & PDM 7. I'm new to the use of forums, so may have put my question in the wrong place.

I wasn't answering you, I specifically quoted the question I was answering.

Your question is off-topic (check the the initial question) and easily answered by looking at the system requirements of Parallels 7.
 
Unfortunately I upgraded to OS Lion BEFORE I thought about upgrading Parallels 5. Now I need my Parallels and it won't work. Any coaching for me?
 
Upgrade to PDM7. Back up your stuff, and try with the trial first to see if works.
 
thanks for your prompt response. I'm not a savy MAC user but learning.
- If I cannot open Parallels 5 how do you suggest I "backup my stuff"?
- Will I lose and have to reload all my applications & programs from PD5? :(
- Will I have to reload / purchase a NEW windows OS with upgrading my parallels? This could add up in costs. I only use a few programs in Parallels and wonder if they will run if I have to upgrade the windows OS as well...

Backup your files, meaning backup your VM, can be as simple as copying the .pvm file (it's actually a folder). Just in case something goes terrible wrong and you can revert back.

What is not working is Parallels, your VM, the information inside Windows is intact, you won't have to reinstall anything, neither you'll need a new Windows license.
