Parallels 8 cannot use Windows 8 from Bootcamp

I performed a clean install of Windows 8 into the Bootcamp partition of a MacBook Pro Retina with Mountain Lion.
When I got to the screen where you supposedly can reformat the Bootcamp partition, that option was not available; deleting and recreating that partition worked. So far so good - telephone activation of Windows, and it worked.

Only Parallels now complains it can't read from the bootcamp drive. The proposed solutions are:
1. Reinstall Windows (but then I expect to run into the same situation)
2. Fix the alignment problem between GPT and MBR using rEFIt and "gptsync" - rEFIt does not appear to work, the command just produces empty output for both GPT and MBR.

I've had Windows 7 in Bootcamp and Parallels before under Snow Leopard - it is my preferred setup. I don't use the Windows side all that much, so I can probably live with just installing Win 8 inside the Virtual Machine, but that clearly is only a second-best solution.

Any hints?
 
Im in the same boat, only I can not only rely on virtual machine, I need my full bootcamp access a lot of the time.
Really hoping this issue is fixed or at least help me figure out my unique problem if it is applicable to me... Seems like it might be a reoccurring issue though. Win 7 worked fine. Win 8 broke it. Parallels does not even see my bootcamp partition now it seem.
 
I have iPartition but dont see any options for repairing. Any kinda help on that so I can see if this method works?
 
Writing MBR with iPartition

I used iPartition and had it "write MBR". This, however, did not solve the problem.
Any ideas?
 
Creating free space with iPartition solves the problem

As so often, a solution to this problem was already out there. I used iPartition to shrink the Bootcamp partition by 128MB (or slightly more), creating free space. Parallels was able to use bootcamp to create the virtual machine.
 
I've never used iPartition myself but I've heard positive feedback from other users with the same problem, apparently it doesn't have a unique feature to do the sync but when it has to work on the Windows partition it will do the right job in keeping GPT and MBR sync'ed.
 
Parallels read my Windows 8 bootcamp partition just fine. I'm having other issues though, like Bootcamp Control Panel not opening, etc.
 
Just wondering if this will be fixed. I want to run Parallels from Boot Camp and am new to all of this. I want to have the option to run Windows 8 from boot camp and from parallels.

I get the error "Failed to configure the Boot Camp partition's hard disk. A disk configuration error has occurred. Make sure that you have read/write permissions for the disk." I tried the solutions in this forum but they didn't work for me.

I tried another product and it works using a boot camp partition. I would rather use parallels because everything I have read says parallels is better but if I can't run a VM from a boot camp install I will have to go with the other product.

Please let me know if this will be fixed/working soon.

So you're getting this error during bootcamp installation? Try unplugging all external drives. I think tag fixed this "failed to configure" issue for me.
 
Thanks for your reply. I was able to install Windows 8 through boot camp, the error occurs when ring to use/setup the windows 8 boot camp installation in parallels 8.
 
Not sure if this is the same problem or not..

Basically I have Mountian Lion and have now installed Win8 on the bootcamp partition.. However the problem is after installing Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac when I open the Parallels app it doesnt give me any option to create a virtual machine using the bootcamp partition only to install from disk. This is really bugging me as I had parallels working fine before upgrading to Mountain Lion and Win8

Any ideas??
 
The discussion in the thread seem to have stopped. I ran into the same situation as 'greenrhyno'. I have MBP Mid 2012 running ML 10.8.2 with Parallels 7 and windows 8 BOOTCAMP.
Any further/updated suggestions would be highly appreciated.
