Parallels -- can't get internet access

Internet Access

When using Host-only networking; Virtual Network Adapter under 10.4.7 something is haywire in the Ethernet Adaptor (en2) setup. In the Network System Preferences panel it shows it is connected but does not have an ip address. In fact, Wiindows XP in parallels is able to access the internet, but there are problems with the DNS lookup. For example, Windows XP can't figure out where www.yahoo.com is. However, if you use the ip address of 209.131.36.158 it works fine. I have been using the workaround of pinging from Network Utility in Mac OS, then inputing the ip address into Windows apps within parallels. I think this failure started with 10.4.7 so maybe Apple broke how Parallels was handling this and we need to wait for a fix?

You should have an IP of 192.168.2.2 assigned with a gateway of 192.168.2.1

If your router issues IP addresses in the 192.168.2.x subnet, you will not have access to the internet. Change the subnet your router uses to something other than 192.168.2.x such as 192.168.5.x. Parallels is supposed to issue IP address in the range specified in it's DHCP server which default to the 10.x.x.x range. Unfortunately Parallels appears to have 192.168.2.x hard wired in and ignores the values specified for it's DHCP server.

Windows Network

At a client's office I am creating a major network problem because of the built in DHCP service in PDM. This is a Win 2000 Small Business Server, and if the W2K server detects another DHCP server on the network is shuts down its own DHCP server. Needless to say, the IT folks at this office find this highly problematic, and don't want me to even hook up my MBP to their network.

Interestingly, this problem occurs even when PDM isn't running.

Anyone have any ideas on a workaround for this? I'd hate to have to go back to using my PC laptop.

I've nearly read all that stuff upthere,
but for my part I just found (part of ?) THE solution :

on Mac, open "préférences système" (System Preferences ?)
then "Internet / partage" (Internet / Share ?)
select "adaptateur Ethernet en2" (well, you got it ?)
then "Internet > Démarrer" ( Start )
a box tells you a warning ; don't mind > START

your connection under parallels (Windows) should work .
