I just completed moving my old XP software (over a home network) to a brand new Win 7 computer. All the applications and files seems to have come over correctly and most of the applications work. HOWEVER, if I use the Start Menu to access say Control-Panel I get a CMD black screen pop up with "The system cannot find the drive specified" and the prompt is at "C:\Windows\System32>". So I used the Start Menu properties dialogue, on the Start Menu tab to select the Customize button and change the appearance of Control Panel to a menu. This worked, but none of the menu items work. I get the above black screen if I click on say "User Accounts". The site http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/file-asso-fixes-for-windows-7/ suggested the LNK entry in the registry is messed up and when I looked in my registry it does NOT look anything like the fix they provide.
