Parallels-Desktop-5608-Mac-en-ND.dmg

backup first

While following the instructions at http://kb.parallels.com/en/4790, at the 2nd reboot (step 7), my mac would no longer reboot. I got a kernel panic and the 'gray' screen of death, with repeated reboot attempts. After reinstalling the OS, installation of build 5608 was successful.

I suspect you inadvertently deleted more than what you were supposed to delete using the rm.

For instance if you issued sudo "rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/" instead of "sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/vmmain.kext" you'd have deleted all the contents of the folder /System/Library/Extensions/ which would probably render OSX unbootable.

@ John@parallels

Hi John, today I downloaded the 5608-Mac-en.dmg by using automatic update checking.
I had the same problem as others: the image wasn't recognized.

Then I came to this forum.
Read your comments, and downloaded the image again using the link you provided.
I did not uninstall, and did not use the sudo ... commands to remove directories.
Just installed the newly downloaded .dmg

All went well.

Thanks,
Joop.
