Parallels Mac file transfer

How do I transfer a file from my Macintosh desktop onto my Windows XP desktop?
I've tried a simple drag and drop, cut and paste both to the desktop and to the shared items folder.

What am I missing?

Horse and Buggy

I had the same issue. I was busy with my tax business and everything was working good even printing (I didn't want to mess anything up and no time for a crash course) so if I wanted a Mac file on Windows XP I e-mailed it to myself and the same in reverse. I have three e-mail addresses. This worked fine. When it came in on Outlook I just saved it to the file I wanted. Same on the Mac side.
I plan on getting into it this summer and hope to progress from the horse and buggy to a model T.
