Parallels reports an error when starting a VM with XP

Hi everyone,

when I start a XP-VM in Parallels 3.0 using Leopard I get the following error message (in German)

Speicher für Monitor-PE konnte nicht zugewiesen werden

Which means translated into English:

Memory for Monitor-PE could not be allocated

Meanwhile I get other memory allocation errors. Restarting my Mac doesn't help :(

I already tried creating a new VM using the "old" harddisk image, but I'm still getting the same error.

Please help. Wouldn't like to kill this VM because I've already saved some data in it.

hi,
how many free disk space do you have on drive where VM stored and what memory size specified in VM configuration? I approach that Parallels monitor can't create memory file due not enough free disk space
 
Hello,

could you please perform the following:
go to Parallels Desktop->Preferences->Memory and set the maximum memory limit manually and enable memory preallocation.
Then, go to Configuration Editor for the VM, Memory tab and set the amount of memory there at 512 mb.

Hi,

what I forgot to mention: when I try to start the VM after the error appeared the first time my whole system crashes.

I followed the steps you wrote in the prior posting with my Mac crashing as result :(

Unfortunately it's not the first time I'm having problems with Parallels. I've got two VMs installed on my system. One with Windows XP Professional and another one with Windows Vista Business. Both systems tend to run unstable. Yes, I've installed the Parallels Tools in both VMs. The Windows Vista Business VM tends to make Parallels using almost 100 % CPU, the XP VM doesn't shut down properly.

Try to uncheck memory preallocation option now - will it solve the issue?

Do you have any ideas regarding my other problems mentioned in my 3rd post?
 
Right after starting the XP VM I get the following message from Parallels

[C] Microsoft Windows XP

Timed out wating for the file system to initialize.
The volume has been ejected. You can use the
init_timeout mount option to wait longer.

What does that mean? Drive C in my VM has been ejected?

u.klose, Ephra is right, you should download the latest MacFuse, it will solve the issue.
As for oter issues - when exactly does Parallels use 100% CPU? Are there any message windows or do you run any applications when it happens? And could you please specify how exactly Parallels XP doesn't shut down properly?
