Parallels Tools Keeps Looping

I cannot get Parallels Tools to install. It worked fine on my Mac Book Pro, but it won't work on my Mac Pro. It just loops, the install fails and it says there's something wrong with the Windows installer. I have looked here and this doesn't seem like an unusual problem. Please if you have experienced a problem with a constantly installing/failing Parallels Tools and found a solution, please, please, please respond. Thanks.

Hello Jeffery,

I would request you to follow these steps of removing parallel tools You can uninstall it by clicking on Start->Control Panel->Add or Remove Programs->Parallels tools and uninstall it.

You can install parallels tools in two ways.
First of all you can start your virtual machine->click on install parallels tools.

Secondly, you can install manually.

Please follow the steps that are written below and you will be able to solve your issue with installing Parallel Tools manually.

1) Go to MAC HD/ Library/Parallels/Tools/Prl-tools-win.iso
2) Double click on that file
3) You will have a file as Setup.exe
4) Copy the file and paste it in Windows Desktop (you can also use a pen/flash drive for this purpose)
5) Then run the setup.exe in Windows
6) you will be able to install Parallel Tools Perfectly.

May you please turn off your firewall and disable the antivirus.

Hello Jeffery,

If you are not able to do then please clear the folder C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp on Windows side to remove all the information kept by Windows installer. Check the Guest OS behavior after this. If the problem is still here, try the following:

1. Go to C:\Program Files\Parallels and delete the "Parallels Tools" folder;
2. Click "Start" -> "Run" and type regedit. Hit OK.
3. In Registry Editor, go to My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Parallels and delete the "Parallels Tools" entry.
4. Reboot Windows;
5. Make sure that Tools do not get installed again and install them from Virtual Machine menu in Parallels Desktop menubar.

Thank you for your kind reply. Parallel Tools is NOT installed on the XP Virtual Machine. The problem is the Windows installer, according to the pop-up that appears when it asks if I want to restart and try again. This just keeps happening. The weird thing is that it all works on my Mac Book Pro, same OS, same guest OS, same everything, but Parallel Tools will not install. I went to Progam Files to be sure there was nothing there and there is no Parallels file in my guest OS (XP.) I just ran regedit and check for the Parallels entry in that and there is no record of an entry there, either. I'm beginning to wonder if it was a faulty installation of XP. If this is the case, what do I do? How do I delete the previous Windows install? Just as if I were using Windows on a PC? Or do I have to delete the virtual machine, repartition, etc? Thank you for your efforts, Anupama.

Please try to install Parallels Tools by following the steps given below:

Same problem

Tried the same approach. No result. This is very irritating. Can't install any apps. "Windows Installer Service is not correctly installed" is the error message I get. This needs to be fixed.

Please follow the steps below in regards to the issue:

1> Please uninstall Parallels using the latest 3848 build.
But remember that you need to uninstall both application and application settings while uninstalling Parallels Desktop application.
2> Install Parallels once again using the same link. Now, install Parallels Tools.

If you receive the same error message please create a new virtual machine using the existing image file.

Creating New Virtual Machine:

1. Click on File > New Virtual Machine.
2. Go with the online screen.
3. When you get a screen Virtual Memory type select Custom.
4. Go with the online screen.
5. When you get Hard Disk Option select Existing Image File.
6. Choose the HDD file and go with the online instruction.

If you are facing the same issue then please perform windows cleanup using the link below:

After performing cleanup try to install Parallels Tools. If it fails to do so then boot into safe mode, delete parallels tools from the registry editor, reboot windows, install Parallels Tools and please make sure that you don't have any antivirus installed.

If the steps above do not help then please follow the steps below:

1) Please unzip the attachment to some place and start virtual machine.

2) Right-click to the CD-ROM Icon on parallels VM window and choose "connect image". Select the unzipped prl_fs_drv.iso file. As well the image may be connected through VM configuration

3) After Windows is booted, log on to it as Adminitstrator or some other user with Admin-rights, open the CD-Rom content (usually drive D:\ ; My Computer -> D:) and select install.bat. After that you should see several messages and invitation to reboot.

4) Please reboot the VM and try to install Parallels Tools. This time it should work.

5) install.bat should log all actions to the c:\temp\setup.log.
