Parallels Tools wont install in Debian with 2.6.29

Parallels Tools wont install in Debian with kernel 2.6.29 (but worked OK with 2.6.28).

Comments, solutions?

Perhaps I should have more explicitly said that it is lack of the file
/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.29-1-common/arch/x86/Makefile_32.cpu
which is the immediate cause of the problem. The only file in that directory is called
Makefile
A quick attempt to kludge matters by making a symbolic link between Makefile and the missing file didn't help.

Very disappointing. I reported this issue back in March. Today I installed the Parallels Build 3844, and the issue persists.

Clearly, no one is bothering to read this forum, or take any action on problem reports.

Debian PT Install WORKS

Hi all... I've never been to this forum before today, but reading your posts, I can only say how much I empathyse with you.

I have Debian 5 (Lenny) which I installed and then installed Parallels tools as follows: try it worked for me.

To install Parallels tools on Lenny

Select "Install Parallels Tools" from the Parallels Virtual Machine Menu

When the tools iso mounts to the desktop, right click it to copy it to an image. Save the image to your home directory.

unmount the tools virtual CD.

su // change to superuser

mount Parallels_Tools.iso -t iso9660 /cdrom -o loop

cd /cdrom

sh install

reboot

All the best, hope it works for you, as it did for me.

Well, I don't have the answer either...
I must say that I don't miss any functionality in my own mixed Debian testing/Sid installation without Parallels Tools.
What exactly would having the Parallels Tools package contribute, I wonder?

I am using a graphics tablet, and without parallels tools, the system is pretty well unusable, as interaction between guest and hist keeps making the pointer warp across the screen when I click.

I have to plug in a mouse just to use Linux, which is bad, as I have RSI.

Uninstall before install worked for me

Greetings,

I had problems installing the Tools in a Debain 4 Guest OS it as well. After the initial install, I got a error saying that X11 would not start-up.

I was finally able to get everything working again after I asked the installer to remove the existing install. After doing the uninstall, and doing the install again, I was finally able to get X11 working, and the GNU GUI to come back up again.
