Parallels will not start up after todays maintenance update

My VM was suspended, I received the maintenance update dialog, said ok, go the installer needs admin rights dialog, entered information, parallels restarted and now I just get a little box that says Parallels Desktop with a spinner and nothing happens.

The about box in parallels says I am running 9.0.23140

Help.
 
did a command+R reboot, disk utility, verified permissions, and ran repair disk. Rebooted, parallels still didn't start. Rebooted and this time told OSX not to reopen any windows. After Reboot parallels started up and gave me the update finished notification.

When in doubt, boot it out finally worked for me.
