Parallels/Windows 7 making Superdrive invisible to Mac

I am running Parallels 11.2.0 (32581) with Windows 7 on a late 2013 iMac 21.5. When not running parallels and Windows 7, my superdrive DVD/r works just fine. When windows is active, I lose all control on the Mac side to the point that the drive is not recognized,although it works just fine on the Windows side. Anyone have an idea what I can do about this? According to Parallels, the drive is set up correctly

All my other USB devices work normally on both sides. Not sure how long the problem existed as I usually use the superdrive with windows. It was;t until I tried importing music into iTunes that I noticed the problem.

Could you follow the steps below and check if it fixes the issue,
1. Shutdown Windows if open.
2. Open Preferences, Parallels Desktop->Preferences
3. Go to 'Devices' tab.
4. Check if your Superdrive is listed in the Permanent Assignments and remove it.
Refer to device preferences for additional information about devices settings.
 
My superdrive is NOT listed in the 'Permanent Assignments'. Only item listed is: backup +Desk to my Mac.
My settings are thus:

when new devices are connected: connect to my mac is selected; and: Mirror windows connected drives to Mac.

when windows is running, settings under parallels/devices/cd-dvd1/, device HL-DT-ST DVDRW GX40N is listed. If I select the option to list Physical CD/DVD, tow are listed: HL-DT-ST DVDRW GX40N and 'Default CD/DVD

Hello @RLDumfries,

The reason for two names ( HL-DT-ST DVDRW GX40N & Default CD/DVD ) being listed under CD/DVD is because Parallels is designed to remember the names of devices connected to guest OS for easy access to external devices.
Choosing " Default CD/DVD " will connect the CD drive to both Mac & Windows. So when you insert a disc, it will be visible on both Mac & Windows but when you choose
" HL-DT-ST DVDRW GX40N or name of any disc inserted ", the disc will be read only on Windows virtual machine.

Perform below steps & check how it goes :
* Start your virtual machine
* In the top menu bar click on Devices > External Devices > Uncheck your super drive from the drop down list. If you reopen same menu, there should never be a tick shown before your super drive name.
* Your device should be connected directly to Mac now & no longer visible on Windows side.
* Open virtual machine configuration > Hardware tab > CD/DVD Drive.
* Choose Default CD/DVD from the Connect to: drop-down list.
* Make sure that " Connected " option is also Checked.

Now disconnect your super drive from your Mac & connect it back to different port to check the issue.

I'm back with the same issue. Mac/Parallels/windows cd/dvdrw was working perfectly after I applied the above solution. However, the problem came back after I installed Roxio Creator NXT 4. I checked parallels and the settings are correct and unchanged. Roxio shows the cd/dvd drive as HL-DT-ST DVDRW GX40N and I could not change it. I then checked windows control panel/device manager and the same cd/dvd drive is listed HL-DT-ST DVDRW GX40N). I could not change that either.

Anybody have any ideas (other than telling me to contact Roxio support, where they would tell me it's a parallels issue)?

Software versions are the same as before.

Hi @RLDumfries,
You could try reinstalling the Parallels tools once, Actions->Reinstall Parallels tools and check if the devices are listed in the permanent assignments. If the device is found as a USB drive, remove it from the list.
