Parallels won't launch

I have read the other posts on this subject and have downloaded and installed the latest version without problems. However it continues to crash no matter how many times I have tried to reinstall. Parallels worked fine on this laptop for the last month or so but Windows got a virus so I had to delete and reinstall the partition. Now trying to reinstall parallels it keeps crashing..... Except once, once it ran but the system got so slow that I had to reboot the Mac.

Any other solutions?
 
Hello Swomack,

Are you on BootCamp? If so, please open Configuration Editor -> Options -> Advanced and cllick Clear button. Then try to launch Windows again.

What build are you using? What are your Host and Guest OS? What is your Mac model?
When exactly do you get the crashes? Could you send a crash log?

Where is configuration editor? If you mean VM configuration it's just greyed out. I can't find what your taking about.

Yes I'm using Boot Camp

It does not even open it just does the hourglass thing then disappears then OSX says it crashed.

Once in awhile it will open and start windows but it's terribly slow. It ran fine on the laptop before I had to redo Windows. When I reinstalled Parallels it never asked me anything about boot camp, and never even asked for my product ID..
 
I downloaded the latest version from the web and installed it. It launches now but stops where it says "parallels tools loading" black screen. Locks whole system and has to be restarted.
 
Swomack, in my previous post there's a link from the words "Configuration Editor" on the article where you can find detailed instructions how to work with it.

To open Configuration Editor press Command / Apple button and keep holding it when launching Parallels.

Please open Configuration Editor -> Options -> Advanced and cllick Clear button.

On the MacBook Pro, the "Command / Apple button" is the button on both sides of the space bar. It has a picture of an apple and a little squiggly loop box thingy or another way to describe it is a quad sided infinity symbol that has a square centered between all four loops. If u get the code correctly, it looks like this: ⌘.
When u'r asking for trouble shooting help it helps others to help u if u describe things like which laptop model u'r using, etc. Otherwise, people may not know where to begin to help u and it can become a daunting task.

When I open configuration editor and click on Options/advanced There is no button called "clear"

There is:
Acceleration Level (set to high)
Enable VT-x support (enabled)
Optimize for better performance of:
Virtual Machine or Mac OSX applications (virtual machine)
Undo Disks (greyed out b/c I'm using boot camp)


If I try to boot the computer up in Windows alone it says I'm missing some DLL file, if I quickly hit the down arrow key and select "Windows XP" it will start and run fine. Just be clear this is ONLY if I start the whole computer in Windows NOT when I'm running parallels, if I try to run parallels it just locks up.

I don't know what else to tell you.
 
The file that windows says it's missing is Hal.dll

From what I have researched this is a common problem with windows however in this case I know the problem is with parallels.

When Windows first starts to boot up there I see the page where:

Parallels tools inititialize or whatever it says and
Windows XP Home

If I quickly press the down arrow and highlight "Windows XP home" instead of "parallels tools initialize" the computer will start in windows and run fine. So the problem has to be with how parallels is trying to start up, or where on the hardrive it's looking for the Windows operating system right?

Because if Hal.dll was really missing the computer should not start and run in Windows via bootcamp right? It should not run at all.

There must be somewhere in the parallels setup where I set where it looks for Windows and fix it so it looks in the right place.

Thanks for any help with this b/c I have to have windows work for my job and rebooting every five minutes is not working very good for me. 90% of what i do is on MAC and 10% on Windows.
