Parallels wont start

Whenever I try and start parallels I get a the boot from hard drive message and parallels wont start. This just happened out of the blue. I've tried restarting my computer and reloading parallels and that doesn't seem to work either. Any thoughts?
 
I have the same, identical problem

My Parallels system was working fine and then all of a sudden, whenever I boot win xp, all I get is the message Booting from hard disk and then the screen goes black.

Nothing seems to get it going again.
 
please state the basics
both OS and Parallels versions

memory structure as well

are you using bootcamp too?

it sounds like Parallels starts but WinXp does not

have you an older clone made as a back up to try?

Sorry, new at this.

Using XP Home
The version of Parallels was really old off the disk I bought so I just upgraded to 3188 and still have same problem
256 mb of memory allocated on an 8 gig mac pro. I tried allocating more memory but didn't help

no bootcamp

yes, paralles runs fine but whenever I boot xp, I get black screen. If I press f8, I get the options but whatever I select, it returns me to the black screen

I don't have any clones or other copies.

I have had several clients that have had this exact problem when they update Parallels. Here is what I have recommended they do and each time it has worked.

1) Quit Parallels.
2) Go to your "User House". Usually, it is on the left side of a Finder window with your name next to it.
3) Go to, Library>Preferences and delete the file com.parallels.Parallels.plist and com.parallels.desktop.plist
4) Open Parallels again and see if it opens.
5) You might want to check your preferences and return them to their previous state, if needed
