PD 7 XP Bootcamp "Windows could not start because of a computer disk ... "

Hello All,
I was attempting to demo PD 7 on my 2010 MBP running Lion. I have XP Pro installed to a Bootcamp partition. When I attempt to start PD 7 I get the following error:

"Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem.
Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check path and disk hardware."

I've been using VMWare Fusion for a long time now and it boots into XP with no issues at all. I had demoed PD 6 a few months ago and it didn't have any issues either.

I found this KB article:

But I don't think that is my issue because Fusion works just fine and I'm able to boot into the partition natively. I did however, just to be sure, boot directly into XP and run a check disk and it came back clean.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I've heard great things about PD 7's speed and would certainly buy it if it is indeed better and faster than Fusion.

Chances are, you probably just have the VM configured incorrectly. With the VM shut down, select Configuration from the Virtual Machine menu, and select the Hardware tab. Select the virtual hard disk from the list and check that the hard disk is correctly pointing to your Boot Camp partition.

There's nothing wrong with your partition. The VM's boot.ini is probably just not set up correctly to point to the partition. Parallels' KB article is a bit misleading, I think.

Thanks for the reply.

I had a little more time to play with it this morning and I was able to get it to work. For anyone else who has this issue, I simply "deleted" the VM and then re-added it. Even though nothing in the config changed, it worked.

Slightly different problem--fixed

I just upgraded to Lion, and when I tried to launch Parallels 6.x I got the same error. I thought it might be related to my upgrade (probably was), so I thought upgrading to Parallels 7 might be the simple fix. It was not. Same problem.

So I did get into the configure menu, and noticed that there were 2 hard drives shown, one selected, both had the same drive name (it is a partitioned drive). I selected the other option, the previously selected one immediately greyed out and was no longer available. I was hopeful that was the solution--and it was. Launched flawlessly without having to boot up in Bootcamp.
