Hi, I am running Parallels Desktop 19 Pro on a mac mini M2 with Windows 11 Pro. I have western digital 2 TB partitioned using APFS. I need to have permanent drive letters to run Access scripts. I can't assign permanent drive letters to these drives. I have looked in the Computer Management area and can only see the mac HDD. File explorer shows the external drive but does not give me the right click option to assign a drive letter. I have also changed the parallels config sharing options to add custom folders for the drives and disabled assign a drive letter to these drives. None of these changes made a difference. Any help / suggestions gratefully received!
I recently purchased a M4 Mac Mini to replace my aging PC. I was hoping to have the best of both worlds. What a mistake! I have 2 x 2 TB SSD's connected to my Parallels Desktop 20 Pro virtual machine and the drive letters change each time I turn on the Mac Mini. Considering you first brought this issue up almost 2 years ago, I guess nobody at Parallels has found a solution to this problem. The only solution I can see for now: sell the msc mini and buy a PC!
I upgraded to Silicon with a MacMini M4 Pro 2 months ago, from an Intel MacBook Pro. About 3 or 4 years ago, I can't recall the circumstances, my Windows VM drive letters changed. I use ArcGIS and at the time, this caused havoc due to ArcGIS projects not connecting to databases and files. I had to change the paths manually which took "a very long wasted time" I'm a sucker for the Mac environment with connectivity to all our other (Mac) devices. After installing silicon parallels and tools, same problem, new drive letters. 2 days ago, after installing a Tools update, which seemed to take a long time, same again, all the drive letters changed, including Dropbox, iCloud, Time Machine and my main shared folder for data.. I use a 2TB Samsung SSD for my data. I reached out to Parallels support and received a reply within 90 minutes, with a procedures to change the drive letters. Satisfactory to fix the problem but i'd like to prevent this happening again. Don't sell your MacMini 4, I am super impressed with the performance, even with super heavy ArcGIS Pro software.
