Operating system Linux 2.6.18-92.1.22.el5
php 5.1.6-20.el5_2.1 would like to upgrade this to 5.2.4

i tried this http://www.atomicorp.com/wiki/index.php/PHP but, afterward the istes worked but, the plesk panel was broken.

can i get some step-by-steps to get the version of php my users can use upgraded without breaking the plesk panel.?

At first you check the parallel panel configuration and system requirement.if there are any php version mentioned then work according to that,otherwise you may try to update php version.
In case that dont solve then i think you have to configure some php file
