Poorly displaying fonts following XP automatic update

I'm running XP SP3 with Parallels 7 on OS 10.8.4. Yesterday, all was fine. But then I received an automatic update notice from MS today, and after the computer shut down and restarted, the fonts displayed in my word processor apps appear in highly degraded form (I've compared text in Wordperfect, Word, Wordpad, and Notepad, and the fonts are horrible in all of them), not unlike the poor resolution you get from a fourth generation photocopy. I've reinstalled parallels tools, checked the driver, played around with resolution settings, and nothing is improving this situation. Anybody have any idea what's going on, and how to fix it?
Thanks in advance

I would do that if you could give me some assurance that a conflict b/w Parallels 7 and OS 10.8.4 is what's causing the problem. Do you have a basis for thinking that such a conflict is the source of my problem?

Yes, Parallels Desktop 7 is not compatible to run on OS X 10.8.4 and hence your facing these issues with Windows Virtual Machine. For more details on system requirements to run Parallels Desktop 7, please refer http://kb.parallels.com/112607

I have installed Parallels 9, which this article http://kb.parallels.com/en/117047 says is compatible with my OS X 10.8.4 The problem of poorly displaying fonts (they appear grainy and distorted; some are too dark, some are too light, etc.) has not gone away. What else can I do to make the fonts display more clearly?

Unrelated. This was a Windows update issue. Just googled "latest windows xp update causing issues with fonts?" and found the following:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...rruption/8640d38d-19bd-46b6-9af0-6213c05107d3

"This also impacts Windows XP, FLP, WEPOS, and POS Ready 2009 (the last 2 are still supported by MS until 2019)
Causes font display/smoothing/substitution corruption in IE/Chrome/Firefox/other apps.
Do not install this update if you value smoothly rendered readable fonts. Uninstall this update for the same."

I recommend whenever you have issues with a guest OS, FIRST search the internet to see if there is an issue with the OS. RARELY is the issue related to the VM app. And ANYTIME you will post here with any mention of a prior version of Parallels, they will tell you to upgrade the VM whether it is related or not....
