Port forwarding

Hi,

I'm trying to use some networking apps on my Windows XP guest OS. Unfortunately the ports they use are not open. I already tried several options in the Sharing preference pane of OS X without luck. The windows firewall is deactivated.
Any ideas?

Maybe if you provide a MUCH more detailed description of your environment, the software you are trying to run, and the results you are getting, someone will answer. Your question as posed is way too broad to motivate me to answer, and may be the reason no one else did. Presumably you've tried disabling the Mac firewall as well.
 
Ok.. so I'll try again ;)

Host system: MacBook Pro 1.83, 1.5GB RAM, running OS 10.4.7
Guest system: Windows XP SP2, newest updates

I try to run a multi-platform software I am developing which enables me to exchange files within the network without using ftp, OS file sharing or instant messengers. The software works fine with real machines, but it cannot connect to a peer from within parallels because the used ports are not open.

Firewall is deactivated in OS X and in Windows. I tried bridged and host only networking for the VM.. neither works. I hope this is sufficient information.

What are the port numbers you are going to use? Aren't they lower ones?

Have you tested some standard sofware instead of your own program?
I ran a simple web server on OSX with a port 9090 and accessed from a VM without
any problems. If you could do this, the problem would be in your particular program.
If this also doesn't work, the problem would be in your setting.

Somebody reported in a thread that a sniffer program in a VM caused a fatal problem in PD.
This suggested unusual usages of network functions are not well supported by PD.
