Printing problems with 2x

Hello!

We are currently using 2x Application Server with Printing in production environment. For some of our users there seems to be a problem with printing through 2x Universal Printer. All it prints is a blank page..if we watch the print spooler it is spooling 10-20 MB and afterwards this job dissapears and it shows a 316 bytes job. On the printer only a blank page it's printed.

The problem happens with EMF printing.

Hi there,

When printing and a document an emf file is generated on the server and kept at: c:\document and settings\USERNAME\LocaSettings\Temp\SavedJob.

When the print out fails, open the document and confirm that the page is the one you have just printed. Please also note the size of this document. Certain printers are not capable of printing large documents (Large emf files).

Try printing the same document on a different printer.

Still some problems

We have a few more issues with printing :

1. When the client connects and starts the remote application, an error appears in the system log. It's eventID 1112 and it sais :

failed to register for user printing preferences change notification. Open the Services snap-in and confirm that the Printer Spooler service is running

The printer spooler is running on both the client and the server. On some clients, sometimes they press print from the program and although it's set to ask for the printer before printing, nothing happens, no printer selection dialog is displayed! We have to log-off and log-on again to the terminal server and afterwards it works (for some time)

2. We encountered an issue on some client computer with 2x client installed. Whenever it's set EMF printing and the client prints some pages, the Page File keeps getting bigger and bigger up until 1,2 Gigabytes (before printing it's about 250-300 MB) and the following error appears in the event log :

Faulting application tsclient.exe, version 6.0.416.0, faulting module 2xvirtualprinter.dll, version 6.0.416.0, fault address 0x000071ea.

The computer gets real real slow and after some time tsclient.exe crashes!

3. If we use PDF printing it keeps printing the document in A4 format although in 2x Universal Printer PDF properties we specified A3 format. This is only on PDF printing, on EMF it's printed correctly on A3!

Re Q1.. that seams to be an issue from MS printing redirection and not from 2X Printing..

Re Q2.. When the client prints a copy of the printout an emf file is generated on the Server,as mentioned before... Could you send a copy of that printout to support..

Re Q3.. that setting must be set from the pdf reader on the client and not on the server....

Regarding Q3, if we alternate between A4 and A3 documents, you say that we must view the document in PDF Reader and afterwards print it from there?
In other words, we have to press the print button twice, first Print in 2x virtual printer and after PDF Reader opens set the page size and print again ?

Isn't any other easier way ?
 
When you are using PDF, the printer settings need to be set from the local pdf printer, so there is not much to do.

What is suggest is to use EMF and if you have any issues with please inform support so as to solve emf problems you are finding..
