prl_disp_service continues to run even after quitting Parallels

I've noticed that if I launch and then quit Parallels 7, prl_disp_service continues to show up in Activity Monitor even after Parallels 7 has quit. I'm curious what this task is actually doing and am concerned that it's eating up system resources. I'm using the latest version of Parallels (7.0.15052.710728).

Thanks in advance for any insights you have to share.
 
this service is the core PD service which is responsible for PD work itself and virtual machine in particular. It does not usually consume a lot of resources so there is no reason to worry.

As noted earlier, this process continues to run after I quit Parallels. Why does it continue to run and is there a safe way to terminate this process? I want to be able to quit Parallels and not have it take any system resources. Currently restarting is the only way I know of to accomplish this, which is a hassle.
 
prl_disp_service at 99%

Even after quitting Parallels, prl_disp_service continues to run at 99%. I just used Quit Process in the Activity Monitor to nuke it. It doesn't solve whatever the core problem is, but I get my CPU back.
 
Why does this process need to stat my VM's ever second? This seems like poor programming. Running 6.0.12106 on 10.7.3. It also does this on the most recent version of 7.0.15054. What gives folks?

I just submitted a support request and will report back when I have more information.

Something new that has shown up since updating Parallels to the latest version — the prl_disp_service now shows up in Activity Monitor even after I restart my iMac. It's not consuming much CPU (about 0.2%), but it still bothers me that this task is running at all. I only use Parallels occasionally and don't want it doing anything at all until I launch the application.

Indeed. It has become fashionable that regular applications behave like viruses and install half a dozen background processes without even asking.

If Parallels is not running, it does not need to run any processes.

BTW would be a nice USP compared to your friends from VMWare - who for years are known for their CPU-eating backround processes (that even like to crash and take 150% CPU power, like their NAT-service... )
 
Similarly to Tim, I've also noticed that if I launch and quit Parallels 6, prl_disp_service continues to show up in the Activity Monitor even after Parallels 6 has quit. It is eating up a tremendous amount (!) of system resources (99.3 – 100% CPU)! I want to be able to quit Parallels and not have it take any system resources when shut down. Currently, restarting the computer is the only way to solve this problem. I'm using the following version of Parallels: 6.0.11990.621014.

I’d appreciate if someone had a solution for this issue.
