prl_vm_app crashes due to SIGSERV after logging in to Windows 10

    I have been using Parallels Desktop 14 for Mac to run a Windows 10 VM since the former had been released, but now all of a sudden I can no longer use it as prl_vm_app crashes shortly after a successful Windows 10 login. Some experimenting has shown that the issue must be in Parallels Tools resetting the Windows 10 installation (where all installed apps are removed) allowed me to work in the VM without any crashes. When I reinstalled Parallels Tools crashes are back.
    Searching the forums, I have found a similar report 7 years old for Parallels 8. Exactly the same behaviour. It is surprising that the problem has not been fixed since.
